Reading

WALT: ask questions as we read to make sure we understand what we read.
video

  • I learned to was use prediction and asking questions to help my reading make sense
  • Most challenging was finding information to answer the questions in the book
  • Next step is to ask questions faster and to use thick and thin questions.
Riley, you use questioning and prediction before you read to help you 'tune in' to what you are going to read. Using these strategies helps you to understand what you are reading. You are able to ask questions and to find the answers in the text, even though that can be tricky.
Your next step is to keep on questions as you read the text, keep on thinking and wondering. This will help you become an active reader and will make sure you understand your text totally.

Sharing our Stories

We have been creating a variety of art pieces this term. These pieces are all about ourselves and sharing our stories. We have used different media like collage, watercolour, crayon and clay to create our art. We are beginning to make choices as artists. Each piece of art shares a little about us.

WALT: share our stories and ideas through art.
WALT: explore a variety of media and make choices about
how we want our finished piece to look

Success criteria: * our message is clear
* our art represents us
* we have tried different media
* we choose the media to create the effect we want

I Think
My Buddy Thinks
my message is clear
My message is clear.
Yes because she add lots of detail.
my art represents me
my art represents me
Yes because it looks like her and has stuff that she likes
I have tried different media
I had tried different media to help my learning
Yes, paint, clay, crayon...
I choose media to create the effect I wanted
I chose media to create the effect I wanted so tidy
Don't know
my favourite media is… because
water colour because you can get the same colour when it runs out

Riley, you think about what you want to say in your art and you add details to make sure the message is clear. You have explored the different media we have tried this year and are beginning to make choices to create the effects you want. You have created some beautiful pieces of art so far this year and I am looking forward to see what else you create this year as you make more choices as an artist.

I am pleased that you think Kotahitanga is 'pretty cool'. You display kotahitanga in all that you do, you are kind and caring and you always look out for others, your classmates, you little buddy and your learning partner. I agree that sharing can be tricky, especially sharing ideas and listening to the ideas of others. I think you work well in a team and can work with a group to grow the best idea. You are a pleasure and a joy to have in Adventure 9.

Reflect

I think
My Buddy thinks
I know what I am learning
I know  what  i am learning by listening to the teacher
she listens properly to the teacher and follows the rules
I know what I need to do to get better
I know what i need to do in my math, reading and writing
she knows what to get better at her things
I plan activities that are going to help my learning
I plan my things that are going to help me be a better learner and things that are going to help my learning.
she plans the good things that are going to help her learning
I follow my plan

I follow my plan so I know what I'm doing.
